Understanding the evolutionary basis for developmental change involves finding the genes that matter for development in natural populations, the evolutionary forces that affect these genes, and the specific alterations that these forces cause in the genes. Our population geneticists investigate these topics in diverse plant, animal, and microbial systems living in both natural and laboratory environments. Specific foci include the evolution of speciation, reproductive isolation, and stress resistance from both genomic and phenotypic perspectives.
